What is the Database Group Purchase?

The Database Group Purchase is a compilation of 40 different databases and websites compiled onto one federated search engine that works with the online catalog.

Accessing the Database Group Purchase

Click on “Databases/Websites,” and then click on “The SWAN Database Group Purchase,” which will be second hypertext link (or link) you see under “Primary Library Databases.” Now click on “Access the Database Group Purchase,” which will take you to the login screen for entering Research Pro.

Logging in

  1. Type in the same name that is on your Library card in its normal order (Ex: John Doe, not Doe, John).
  2. Type in your entire Library card number, excluding the spaces, found on the back of your card into the second box.
  3. Create a PIN number, which you will use each time you login.  If you forget your PIN, a staff member can reset it, provided that you show a valid photo ID with your current Maywood address on it in person.
  4. The login screen will only remain on your monitor for a brief moment.  If you do not successfully login after a few minutes, the screen will change to the normal SWAN search screen.  If this occurs, please close the window, click on the Research Pro link on our website once more, and try to login in again.

Variations of Search Results

It will be necessary to become used to searching with the Database Group Purchase and discovering which databases are the best to use.  Different databases and websites on the Database Group Purchase will provide you with different results.  Some may not offer full text, and if you are taking a class, some databases and websites may not be acceptable from the point of view of your instructor.
